Environmental Careers/Majors Info Session
Location: Talley Student Union Room 4280
Interested in an environmental career or know a student who might be? Attend this 1/2 hour information session about the Environmental First Year Program at NC State University. We will explore environmental majors offered in the College of Natural Resources and the careers they can lead to. Learn more

 

Tuesday, Sept. 18

Why Zero Waste?
Location: Talley Student Union Room 3222
Each of us will have our own journey to achieving zero waste, but it is vital we start the process. This presentation will provide an overview of what zero waste means, how NC State implements programs and practices to move towards zero waste, and tips for individuals to begin their own journey to living zero waste.

6 – 7:30 p.m.
Sustainability Fair
Location: Stafford Commons
Get involved! Talk with members of NC State’s sustainability-related student organizations about ways you can get involved. Whether your interest is the environment, social impact and innovation or something in between, there’s an opportunity for you to connect and get involved.

 

Wednesday, Sept. 19

All Carolinas Meal – POSTPONED to September 26
Location: Fountain or Clark Dining Halls
NC State Dining hosts its biggest outdoor meal of the year. Stop by Fountain or Clark Dining Halls for a fresh, local dinner with live music by the band Whiskey Rebellion. The event highlights the importance of local, sustainable food systems.

 

Thursday, Sept. 20

Noon – 12:45 p.m.
Tour Of Floating Islands Project
Location: Meet at Weaver Labs
Biological and agricultural engineering Ph.D. student Bryan Maxwell will take us on a behind-the-scenes tour of “floating islands.” These unique islands of plants are being researched to see if they improve the quality of stormwater. The tour starts at noon at Weaver Labs at 3100 Faucette Drive to see a small study in the lab before walking (less than 10 minutes) to a campus stormwater pond where floating islands are functioning and being actively researched. R.L. Rabb Science and Society Symposium On Urban Sustainability
Location: James B. Hunt Jr. Library.
The first R. L. Rabb Science and Society Symposium brings together a group of interdisciplinary scholars, writers, artists, and practitioners addressing urban sustainability issues, with a focus on the emerging mega-cities of Latin America and South Asia. Learn more

6 – 9 p.m.
Repair Cafe
Location: Makerspace in DH Hill Library
The DH Hill Library Makerspace is hosting a free Repair Cafe for any students, faculty or staff who would like help in fixing a broken item. Volunteer repair coaches will be available to help you reduced waste, learn repair skills and have fun.

6:45 – 9:30 p.m.
Zero Waste Wolfpack at Women’s Soccer
Location: Dail Soccer Stadium
Volunteering with the Zero Waste Wolfpack. Help us strive for zero waste during the game while cheering on the team as you watch the action from the concourse. Volunteers for this program will interact, educate and assist fans in sorting their waste in order to help NC State strive for zero landfill waste. Learn more and sign up

R.L. Rabb Science and Society Symposium On Urban Sustainability
Location: James B. Hunt Jr. Library.
The first R. L. Rabb Science and Society Symposium brings together a group of interdisciplinary scholars, writers, artists, and practitioners addressing urban sustainability issues, with a focus on the emerging mega-cities of Latin America and South Asia. The event concludes Saturday morning. Learn more
