Welcome to the Arts at NC State!

NC State LIVE presented Squonk at their 50th Anniversary Block party on September 18.

Hello! I’m Amy Sawyers-Williams, and I am thrilled to welcome you to the Arts at NC State virtual information table. Myself and arts interns will be at in-person info fairs throughout the year, but in case you can’t make it, or need virtual information, we created this page. Read on.

Three Things to Know:

  1. All NC State students – regardless of college or major – are welcome to participate in NC State arts programs and productions, and to take both credit and non-credit arts courses.
  2. We represent six arts programs – including dance, music, theatre, a crafts center, an art museum, and a performing arts series. At NC State, the arts are for everyone, and you can get involved with any and all of these programs.
  3. I am here to answer your questions. As the manager of arts outreach and engagement, I want to help you connect with all the arts have to offer at NC State University. Please reach out to me at acsawyer@ncsu.edu.

Three things for you to do:

  1. Sign up for emails. Now more than ever, with event plans shifting regularly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the best way for us to get in touch to let you know what’s happening on campus is through email. Tell us what you’re interested in!
  2. Explore our arts orientation brochure (opens a PDF file). This document covers the most common questions we hear from students, like: How do I audition for dance or music ensembles? Can I audition for a theatre production? Can I work backstage? How do I register for crafts classes? Are there arts jobs for students?
  3. If you haven’t already, please check out our welcome video below. It gives you a whirlwind tour of our programs in under four minutes. (You can also watch a separate video for the Department of Music.)

What our students have to say:

In this video, State Dance Company member LilyGrace Wolfe talks about the many opportunities she has found being a part of the NC State Dance Program.

“University Theatre has been instrumental in my time at State. It has been a community that has connected me to so many people across so many programs, taught me so many skills, and provided so many opportunities to learn and grow. UT has been as important to me as my major and NC State wouldn’t feel like a home without it.”
