Electric Field Trip to the OBX
Currituck County 4-H will be taking a field trip on July 22, 2016 to Jennette’s Pier and the UNC Coastal Studies Institute to learn about different forms of alternative energy. Participants ages 11 and up will learn about geothermal and ocean energy through site visits at each facility.  They will learn how each site utilizes and researches alternative energies, and the mechanics of creating electrical energy from kinetic energy.  Students will then use what they have learned to engineer a device that creates an electrical voltage from ocean waves or ocean currents. Through this process participants will learn principles of electricity, engineering, the science of ocean processes, and problem solving.
Participants will be at each site for 1.5 hours. They will learn about geothermal energy at Jennette’s Pier and focus on ocean energy at the UNC Coastal Studies Institute. Youth will meet at the NC Cooperative Extension Service Currituck Center at 8:00 am and travel to their destination. They are asked to bring a bag lunch.

There is a registration fee of $23 and the deadline to register is July 8, 2016. To register your child please complete the questions below and hit submit.
