Add a Contact

  1. Click the Gear icon > File > New > Contact.
  2. Begin to type the name of the person you are looking for, and the field will populate with the closest matches.
  3. Once you find the person you are looking for, click Add.

Note: If you’d like to add the person to a specific group/folder, click the drop-down next to Add to and then choose the appropriate drop-down. If the group does not already exist, choose New Group and type the name of the new Group to create it.

Organize Contacts

  1. Click the Gear icon > File > New > Group.
  2. Type the name of the Group you would like to add, then click Create.
  3. To move contacts into the new Group, right-click on the Contact and choose Move to Group.
  4. Choose the group you wish to move the contact into.

Control Sounds

  1. Click the Gear icon > Options > Notifications.
  2. Under Sounds in the right-hand pane, modify your Chat Message and or Ringtone, then click Apply and OK.

Start a Chat

 Double-click on the contact name with whom you want to chat, or right-click on the contact name and choose Chat.

Chat with Multiple People

  1. Once you have initiated a chat with a contact, click the Add Participant icon within the chat window.
  2. Type the name of the person you wish to add, then click Add.

Note: Group Chat is only available with contacts using accounts on the ComTech Cisco Jabber service.

Or

  1. You can select multiple participants by pressing the CTRL key while clicking each participant. 

Call a Contact

To call a contact, highlight the contact and click on the phone icon on the right side of the contact line. This will call the contact’s phone number automatically.

To call someone that is not on your contact list, type the phone number you wish to call in the Search or enter a number to the call field (near the top of the Jabber window). Then, click Enter to dial the number.

Notes:

  1. To use your computer to make calls (with or without a headset), ensure Use my computer for calls is checked by clicking the drop-down menu next to the phone icon (bottom left side of the Jabber window).
  2. To use your computer to dial but talk via your phone, ensure Use my phone for calls is checked.

Long Distance Calls 

To call a long distance contact from Cisco Jabber for Windows/MAC enter the following:

  1. Dial 7 + 1 + Area Code + Telephone Number (+ Long Distance Authorization Code if necessary) + # (example: 71512999555123456#) 

To call a long-distance contact from the Cisco Jabber app on iPhone and Android:

  1. In the Cisco Jabber app, press the Calls icon.
  2. Then, press the blue round keypad. 
  3. Dial 7 + 1 + Area Code + Telephone Number (+ Long Distance Authorization Code if necessary) + # (example: 71512999555123456#) 
  4. Wait a few seconds to hear the ring.  

Access Phone Call Logs

 Click the Recents icon along the left side of your Jabber window.

Listen to Voicemail

Click the Voicemail icon on the left side of your Jabber window.

 Note: If your window is minimized, you might have to click the More … icon to see the Voicemail icon.

Forward all Calls with Jabber

  1. Click the phone icon in the bottom left corner of the Jabber window and choose Forward Calls to.
  2. Choose to forward all of your calls directly to Voicemail or enter a phone number to forward all calls to.

Share Files with a Contact

  1. Within the chat window, click the paperclip icon near the bottom of the window.
  2. Browse to the file you want to send, then choose Open to begin the file transfer process.
    Note: The other party must click to accept the file transfer before the transfer will start.

Start a Conference Call with Jabber (on Windows)

  1.  Select the contact you would like to be on the conference call.
    Note: You can select multiple participants by pressing the CTRL key while clicking each participant. 
  2.  Right-click and select Start Conference Call.
  3.  When the Conference window opens, click the phone icon next to each participant to call (one at a time).
  4.  When each person answers, click the GREEN Join button to join that participant to the conference call.

Start a Conference Call with Jabber (on Mac)

  1. Start a call with your first participant.
    Note: Notify the participant that you will initiate a conference and that the callers will be on hold while you add other participants.
  2. Click the Show Actions button, then click Add Call.
  3. Type the name of the next participant in the Search field or manually enter a phone number.

Note: The Search results display all the contacts in your contact list that have a phone number associated with their profile, even those that are offline.

  1. Click the name of the desired contact, then from the contact information, choose the number you want to dial.
  2. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until all participants are added; click Conference. All of the callers (including you) will be able to communicate in the same call.

Note: When each contact answers the call, these contacts are on the line with you ONLY. These people will not communicate in your original call until you finish adding participants and establish the conference.

Start a Video Conference with Jabber

Note: Both users must have the Cisco Jabber client set to Use Computer for Calls. Click the phone icon in the bottom left corner of the Jabber window and choose to Use my computer for calls.

  1. Enter the phone number of the contact in the Search or enter a number to call field, or highlight the contact’s name and click on the phone icon on the right side of the Jabber window.
  2. Once the call connects, both parties must choose the Start My Video option in the drop-down menu on the right side of the call window.
    Note: To test your video, ensure that Use my computer for calls is checked by clicking on the phone icon in the bottom left corner of the Jabber window, then click the Gear icon> Options > Video.

Update/Change Jabber Profile Picture

Go to Faculty/Staff Accounts or Service/Generic Accounts, depending on your account type.

Use Desk Phone Control Mode in Jabber

Note: By default, Jabber starts in desk phone control mode. This allows you to control your Cisco desk phone via the Jabber client. Jabber will notify you when an inbound call arrives and allow you to either answer the call from your computer or divert it to voicemail.

To place an outbound call:

Enter a person’s name or phone number in the search or call box.

Press the green Phone icon to place the call.

Use Computer for Calls (Jabber as a Softphone)

 Note: You can use Jabber to place and receive phone calls directly from your computer (softphone mode) without needing a physical phone. Your computer needs either built-in speakers and a microphone or a headset with a microphone.

  1. Click the Phone Control icon on the lower left-hand side of the Hub Window.
  2. Choose to Use my computer for calls.
