In a free lecture hosted by Arts NC State and Centennial Campus, filmmaker and Grammy-nominated record producer Max Langstaff will take us on a magical mystery tour inside Abbey Road studios with Sir George Martin in search of Sgt. Pepper – the band, the songs, and the myth. Who are the Beatles? Where did they come from, and do they still matter?

About Maxim Langstaff
Max Langstaff is an award-winning filmmaker and producer. Nominated for multiple Grammy and Emmy awards for his work in film, television and music, his creative and editorial work has reached hundreds of millions of people worldwide. Most recently, he created and was the executive producer and writer for the eight-part PBS Series Soundbreaking, nominated for Emmy, Grammy, and Film Critics Awards.
Collaborating with Sir George Martin for more than 15 years, he produced, directed and co-wrote The Making of Sergeant Pepper along with the most extensive Beatles archive ever filmed, through the eyes of the man who signed the Beatles, and arranged and produced all of their recordings.
Langstaff was the creator and executive producer of the Emmy and Grammy-nominated Wildlife Concert with John Denver, which spawned the highest-rated music program in cable TV, and two multi-platinum CD sets, topping both the Billboard Pop and Country Charts.

A leading scholar on the history of recorded music, Langstaff has been a guest lecturer and coach in the arts, humanities and business at a number of American universities, including both the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University.
A fervent advocate for the arts and arts education, he has represented North Carolina as regional judge and keynote speaker for Reflections, a national PTA Program engaging thousands of students Pre-K through grade 12 to help them “explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence, and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.”
