Poole Minors

In order to declare a minor in Accounting, students must have a 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA.

Accounting majors cannot declare an Accounting minor.

Eligible students can declare the minor by applying via MyPack Portal. Please visit go.ncsu.edu/minor_coda for more information.

The Accounting Minor requires 15 hours of courses with at least a 2.0 GPA in minor coursework.

• Required Courses (6 credit hours)
  • ACC 210 – Concepts of Financial Reporting
  • ACC 220 – Introduction to Managerial Accounting
• Elective Courses (9 credit hours)
  • Students may choose from any 300- or 400-level ACC course, provided they meet all required prerequisites for the course.

Students may transfer in up to 9 credits (6 max at the 300/400 level) towards the Accounting minor. The Poole College Office of Undergraduate Programs (poole_scheduling@ncsu.edu) must approve any transfer credits taken toward the minor.

Important information for Spring 2024 registration:

• Some seats in ACC courses will be open to declared Accounting minors from the start of registration, although some seats will be reserved for Poole College majors. Be sure to get on the waitlist if there are no un-reserved seats available. You can also use the “swap to waitlist” option. Details and instructions can be found here.
  • Helpful Tip: When trying to register, be sure to check the “Wait List OK” box in your Enrollment Wizard. This will at least put you on the waitlist if there are no reserved seats remaining. Although we can’t guarantee everyone a seat, we hope to be able to open more seats for students in the minor as we near the start of the semester.
• We will review enrollment in our courses and waitlists on November 14th and plan to release several of the reserved seats to students already on the waitlist at that time.

• Students must earn a grade of ‘C-‘ or better in all courses used to satisfy the minor.
• Students must earn an overall GPA of 2.0 or better in their minor coursework to be certified for the minor.
• Students may not take minor coursework on a credit only (pass/fail) basis.
• If transfer credits contribute to the completion of the minor, students need to ensure that official transcripts are sent and processed at NC State.
• The minor must be completed no later than the semester in which the student expects to graduate from his or her degree program.  

In order to declare a minor in Business Administration, students must:

• Have completed at least 30 hours of coursework (not including courses currently in progress), with at least 15 hours successfully completed at NC State
• Have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
• Not be a Business Administration major or a Accounting major

The Business Administration Minor requires 18 hours of courses with at least a 2.0 GPA in minor coursework.

• MIE 201 – Introduction to Business Processes
• EC 205 – Fundamentals of Economics (C- or better; may be replaced by EC 201 or ARE 201 with a C- or better)
• One 200-level ACC course from the following list: (C- or better)
  • ACC 210 – Concepts of Financial Reporting
  • ACC 220 – Introduction to Managerial Accounting
  • ACC 280 – Survey of Financial and Managerial Accounting
    • Please note that ACC 280 will NOT count as a prerequisite for BUS 320.
• Three electives from the following list:
  • BUS 320 – Financial Management
  • BUS 340 – Information Systems Management
  • BUS 360 – Marketing Methods
  • BUS 370 – Operations and Supply Chain Management
  • M 380 – Doing Business Globally (Study Abroad Students)
  • MIE 305 – Legal and Regulatory Environment
  • MIE 310 – Introduction to Entrepreneurship
  • MIE 330 – Human Resource Management

The Business Administration minor is designed primarily as a summer program.  To successfully complete the minor, students are strongly encouraged to take non-restricted Poole courses during the summer terms or participate in a Poole Summer Abroad Program. Poole College does not guarantee after admission that you will be able to complete your minor if you only complete classes during the Fall and Spring terms.

Because most of the MIE 41x electives have a prerequisite of MIE 410, students will need to allow for at least 3 semesters to complete the Business Entrepreneurship minor. (MIE 310 –> MIE 410 –> MIE 41x)
