Collapse ▲The risk of a blossom blight infection event is HIGH for Polk County (NC) for Wednesday April 18 and Thursday April 19. Due to the rain amount on Sunday (>2.5 inches in several areas), if a bactericide application was made prior Sunday, do not assume blossoms are still protected. Although some weather stations in Henderson County (NC) are predicting a High risk for an infection event (according to the Infection Potential/EIP model), bacterial populations on the stigmatic surface of flowers are low and a streptomycin or other bactericide application is probably not necessary.
- High Risk: If there are open blossoms in your block, a high risk of a blossom blight infection event means that 2 of 3 requirements (see Bloom Disease Update )are satisfied for blossom blight to occur. A preventative streptomycin or other bactericide application should be considered prior to a wetting period (dew or precipitation).
