Bullington Gardens is Henderson County’s public garden. Visitors are welcome Monday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Educational programs and events are offered throughout the year, the following is a glimpse of what is coming up. Registration for 2019 classes can be made by calling Bullington Gardens, 828-698-6104 or visiting their website.

Seed Starting Basics: Apr. 2, 45:30 p.m.

John Murphy of Bullington Gardens will demonstrate and discuss ways to successfully sow seeds both indoors as well as directly in the garden. We’ll cover seed dormancy, best media, containers, and considerations for growing inside. $14

Growing and Propagating Dahlias: Apr. 10, 34:30 p.m.

Brian Killingsworth, Bullington’s dahlia guru, will discuss and demonstrate how to grow these spectacular plants in your garden. Bring last season’s clumps of tubers to see how to divide into individual tubers. $12

Using Perennials in the Landscape: Apr. 23, 34:30 p.m.

Crissy Dzielak of Landmark Landscapes will highlight great perennials for Western NC, especially ones that are lower maintenance, and how these plants can be used in the landscape. $14

Spring Plant Sale: Apr. 2527, 9 a.m.4 p.m.

A wide selection of perennials, veg. starts, trees, shrubs, and some annuals.

Container Gardening with Vegetables: Apr. 30, 34:30 p.m.

Growing vegetables in a container can be convenient and a different way to approach using your patio containers. Area Extension Specialized Agent Craig Mauney will demonstrate how to plant and manage your vegetable containers and discuss which vegetables are particularly well suited for growing in containers. $14

Native Azalea Walk, May 3, 34 p.m.

Join nurseryman Wes Burlingame on a walk of the native azalea collection at Bullington. Free.

Spring Garden Tour: May 3, 45 p.m.

A free tour of the various gardens at Bullington showcasing the spring blooms and unique trees.

Hydrangea Happiness: May 7, 34:30 p.m.

Landscape Designer Nancy Duffy will demystify the confusion about hydrangeas. Learn about several species and cultivars, what’s new, what’s tried and true, how to care for them and most importantly the correct time to prune. $14
