NC dairy youth (ages 8-21) mark your calendars and get ready to sharpen your skills in the show ring. The N.C. Cooperative Extension of Alleghany County team is excited to offer its Dairy Show Success Clinic, July 23-24, 2019, at the Alleghany County Fairgrounds in Sparta, NC. The workshop will begin on Tuesday at 10 a.m. and conclude at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Katie Coyne will be joining us from Wisconsin and serving as the lead instructor for the workshop. Katie has taught show clinics from coast to coast and currently serves as the Superintendent for the World Dairy Expo Showmanship and Fitting Contests. Her main goal is to help participants maximize their knowledge in:

Showmanship – Training your heifer at home and how to properly present her in the show ring

Fitting – Tools and tips for clipping and grooming your heifer to maker her look her best

Nutrition – Proper nutrition to maximize growth and maintain condition

Calf Care & Health – Identifying illness, treatments, and when to call a vet

Animal Selection – What to look for when picking your show calf

General Show Preparation – Recommended supplies, herdsmanship, properly bedding and washing your animal

Cost of the workshop will be $25.00 for Day Participants and $100.00 for overnight particpants. There are limited scholarships available for overnight participants sponsored by the NC Dairy Youth Foundation. All meals will be included for participants.
