Currituck County 4-H has two great opportunities for kids on October 23, 2019, which is a “no school” day. Both are engaging and educational and will be great fun for all.

4-H Clover

Electric/Energy Workshop will be held on October 23 from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. This is the first of three electric/energy workshops designed to allow 8-13 year olds to learn about electricity and alternative energy sources and technologies. In this program participants will build different types of circuits, explore the effects of magnetism in our world and learn about the power of wind by designing and building windmills from a variety of materials. Participants need to bring a bag lunch. As long as space is available, participants can register until October 22, 2019. Complete your registration online at https://magicofelectricity.eventbrite.com.

The N.C. 4-H Electric Program offers youth the opportunity to learn about the world of electricity, renewable energy technologies, and energy conservation, through a wide variety of activities, field trips and seminars. Duke Energy Carolinas, Dominion Energy and Duke Energy Progress sponsor an all expense paid conference (NC Electric Congress) each year for 4-H’ers 11 years and older, who complete an electric project. NC Electric Congress is held on NC college and university campuses each July. Participating youth experience many exciting and engaging activities like power line demonstrations, visits to nuclear power plants, hot air balloons and soldering.

Pumpkin Science Workshop will be held on October 23 beginning at 9 a.m. and concluding at 2 p.m. This workshop is for youth ages 5-7 years old. Activities include a field trip to a local pumpkin patch, pumpkin decorating and cooking with pumpkin. All participants will take home their decorated pumpkin and pumpkin bread. Participants should bring a bag lunch. Space is limited. Registration deadline is October 16. Please reserve your child’s spot through Eventbrite at cloverbudpumpkinscience19.

If you would like more information on this and other 4-H activities and events, please contact the Currituck County 4-H Staff at 252-232-2262.

4-H is North Carolina’s largest youth development organization, equipping more than 263,000 young people each year with the skills to succeed and improve the world around them. 4-H programs and camps encourage young people to “learn by doing,” helping them to develop into active, contributing citizens. NC State Extension and the Cooperative Extension Program at N.C. A&T State University coordinate 4-H programs statewide.
