On October 8 and 9 the N.C. Cooperative Extension, McDowell County Center and McDowell Agricultural Youth Foundation hosted their annual Agriculture Awareness Field Day. The event was held at the McDowell County Ag Center for all 4th graders of McDowell County. 435 youth attended the event were they learned about different topics of agriculture. All students participated in 9 different sessions throughout each day and were given the opportunity to learn and ask questions concerning agriculture.

After the event, youth  have the opportunity to compete in an essay contest. They will write about their favorite topic from one of the sessions they attended and explain why agriculture is so important in our everyday lives. The winner from each school will receive $25.00.

We would also like to thank our many volunteers that make this event possible. Listed below are the sessions and volunteers that make up this wonderful program.
