The annual 4-H Farm Credit Showmanship Circuit, proudly sponsored by Carolina Farm Credit and Cape Fear Farm Credit, provides youth ages five to nineteen an opportunity to compete against other youth from across the region at each of the twelve County Shows. The twelve County Shows take place in the following counties: Randolph, Guilford, Stanly, Montgomery, Cumberland, Richmond, Lee, Chatham, Union, Anson, Moore, and Robeson. Points are accumulated at each County Show, and placings are determined by total points received. The Showmanship classes are designed to gauge the 4-H’ers knowledge and skill with the animal. By participating in the 4-H Farm Credit Showmanship Circuit, youth learn leadership skills, record-keeping, communication, and responsibility, while increasing their self-esteem.

In this year’s circuit, Chatham County had eight 4-H’ers participate, including one Cloverbud – youth ages five to eight. The Cloverbud division is a non-competitive division with the sole purpose of allowing our youngest 4-H’ers to gain beneficial experience. The following Chatham County 4-H’ers participated: Heidi Spainhour (Cloverbud Heifer), Kaylee Powell (Junior Goat), Levi Culberson (Junior Goat), Hunter Batchelor (Senior Heifer), Katelyn Batchelor (Senior Heifer), Lindsay Seitz (Senior Heifer), Luke White (Senior Heifer), and Morgan Payne (Senior Heifer). We are very proud of all participants and especially grateful to their parents, friends, and family who have supported them throughout the show season!

Three of the Chatham County 4-H’ers received awards on Friday, November 15, 2019, at the 4-H Farm Credit Showmanship Circuit Awards Banquet held in Robeson County. Hunter Batchelor placed fifth in Senior Heifer, Katelyn Batchelor placed fourth in Senior Heifer, and Lindsay Seitz placed first in Senior Heifer. In addition to her first-place finish, Lindsay Seitz won Most Improved Heifer Showman. This is awarded to the individual with the largest increase in total points from the previous year to the current year. Congratulations to these three showmen for a job well done!
