Join Cherokee County 4-H in welcoming its newest 4-H club a Fly Fishing and Fly Tying Club. The club meets each Wednesday (when there is school), from 3–5:30 p.m. (as soon as youth are dismissed from school), at the Extension Education Classroom, at 699 Conaheeta Street, Murphy. The meeting space is behind the Rock Gym in Murphy in the building that also houses the Parks & Recreation Office. Students at Murphy Middle & High School can take bus 59 to the corner at the Hiawassee Pool and Wellness and walk to the classroom. Look for the N.C. Cooperative Extension sign next to the door.

The club is open to all youth in grades 6th-12th no matter which school they attend. If a member attends another Cherokee County School and would like to attend please contact Shannon Coleman at shannon_coleman@ncsu.edu or call 828-837-2210 ext. 4 to let us know they will be late for the start of the meeting.

Youth will be learning how to tie flies of their own as well as casting and all there is to know about fly fishing. We also are looking for more adults that have experience with fly fishing and tying that would just like to help lend a hand with working on projects with the club so if you would like to help out either in Cherokee County on Wednesday’s or Clay County on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s please call Shannon Coleman in Cherokee County, 828-837-2210 ext. 4 or Julie Lyvers in Clay County, 828-389-6305.
