The application deadline for the 2020 Extension Master Gardener℠ Program of Pamlico County is February 13, 2020. Classes will begin February 20, 2020, and run through April 14, 2020, on Tuesday and Thursday of each week from 9 a.m.–noon. Applications are available in our office and online. Applications will still be accepted beyond the deadline, but we need to ensure we have a minimum number of participants to conduct this program. Learn more about Master Gardener℠ volunteers.

Training this year will focus on both classroom instruction and hands-on activities. Several field trips are also planned to local gardens, parks, and fields to learn about the crops growing in our communities. The Extension Master Gardener Program of Pamlico County is a volunteer training program that focuses on home horticulture with our curriculum coming from the North Carolina Extension Gardener Handbook.

All class participants will be provided a copy of the North Carolina Extension Gardener Handbook, which is part of the program participation fee of $135.00. This fee also includes the NC State Extension training fee and a small local fee for snacks and supplies. Participants who wish to complete the Extension Master Gardener Program of Pamlico County and earn the title of Master Gardener volunteer will need to complete the 40-hour training course and assist Extension with 40-hours of volunteer service during the first year. Program participants are encouraged to participate in the volunteer service but it is not a requirement for class participation.

We welcome anyone who has an interest in home horticulture and would like to improve their gardening skills. If you have questions about the program please contact Daniel Simpson at 252-745-4121 or Daniel_simpson@ncsu.edu. Below is the current program schedule for 2020.
