Do you or a family you know have a child in 5th through 9th grade? Do you want to strengthen your family and help your youth focus on achieving goals without falling into the dangers of risky behaviors? If you said yes to either of those questions, the EYFP program may be just what you’re looking for!

North Carolina Cooperative Extension of Montgomery County is gearing up to kick off our next Empowering Youth and Families program, beginning in April of 2020. The 10-week program is aimed at building powerful families that then help build and strengthen our community.

The program focuses on helping youth and their caregivers strengthen interpersonal relationships, build conflict management and resistance skills, strengthen resiliency and learn how to access help from each other and within the community. The overall goal of the program is to help lower opioid and substance abuse rates in Montgomery County.

Previous participants have indicated that the program “changed my life in ways I never would’ve imagined” and “gave my daughter the strength and courage to handle a risky situation in a way that made us both proud.”

The program meets weekly for two hours, and a full meal is served at every meeting. There is no cost to participate in the program. Families participate in a free weekend camp called Confluence where they get to continue to grow and enjoy fun times together as a family while planning a group project to empower community growth.

The class schedule will be determined by the availability of participating families. For more information, please contact Chrissy Haynes at (910) 576-6011 or Rhonda Peters at Rhonda_Peters@ncsu.edu.mother and daughter
