winners of horse show

North Carolina State University recently conducted the 2020 NC 4-H State Horse Show in a virtual format due to COVID-19. Over 150 youth, including 4 from Currituck County, participated in the show. 

Emerson Page, (Soundside Riders 4-H Club) and her horse Tuckaway Top Stock, took first place honors in Little Britches Showmanship and Western Horsemanship. She also competed in Short Stirrup Equitation, placing seventh. 

Alyse Painter, (Soundside Riders 4-H Club) and her horse Grab Your Assets, placed second in the Rookie Walk/Trot Showmanship and third in the Walk/Trot Equitation.

Currituck’s Cloverbud program (ages 5-7 )was represented by Preston Gilliam (Soundside Riders 4-H Club), and his horse Grab Your Assets . Preston was in the Cloverbud Showmanship and Cloverbud Horsemanship; receiving first place ribbons for both classes. 

Poppy Wright ( Wolfpack 4-H Club) submitted an original poem in the  Creative Writing & Artistic Expressions Division of the Show and placed 1st in the Junior Class. 

This was the first year competing at the State level for all four 4-H’ers. Congratulations to these outstanding Currituck County 4-H’ers and thanks to all the parents, volunteers and staff, who helped these young people succeed and achieve.
