Person County 4-H member, Cathryn Haynes, won a trip to the 2021 National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Georgia from her participation in the 2020 North Carolina 4-H AIRE (Application, Interview, Resume & Electronic-Video) program.
AIRE is a workforce development and college prep program open to all youth ages 11-18. Participants submit a complete packet that includes an application, their resume, and an electronic video made from a prompt. Youth are then virtually interviewed by a panel of volunteers just as they would be for a job interview or college acceptance interview.
Cathryn Haynes, 15, daughter of David and Rhonda Haynes of Roxboro will be attending the 2021 National 4-H Congress where she will represent Person County 4-H and North Carolina 4-H alongside 14 other youth delegates from North Carolina 4-H. Cathryn is a rising sophomore at Person County Early College for Innovation & Learning and is a member of the Person County 4-H Sewing Club. She has been active in the 4-H program for 5 years.
The history of the National 4-H Congress goes back one hundred years. An educational tour to Chicago was the forerunner to what would eventually become known as National 4-H Congress. Today National 4-H Congress provides a great opportunity for 4-H members from across the country to come together and learn about community involvement, culture diversity, and service to others while meeting new friends.
4-H is North Carolina’s largest youth development organization, equipping more than 262,200 young people each year with the skills to succeed and improve the world around them. 4-H programs and camps encourage young people to “learn by doing,” helping them to develop into active, contributing citizens. NC State Extension and the Cooperative Extension Program at N.C. A&T State University coordinate 4-H programs statewide.
