Governor Roy Cooper stated in a press release “Agriculture is vital to our economy and food supply and it is critical that we protect farmworkers and their families from this virus.” In addition, NCDHHS Secretary, Mandy Cohen stated, “Many of our farmworkers live in group housing, putting them at higher risk of exposure to COVID-19. Providing masks is one way we are helping to protect workers.”
Through the partnership between NCDHHS, N.C. Cooperative Extension, N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, N.C. Department of Labor, and the Agromedicine Institute, N.C. Cooperative Extension of Edgecombe County has been allocated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Edgecombe County Farmers and Agriculture Workers in response to COVID-19.
N.C Cooperative Extension will be passing out Cloth Face Masks, Disposable Face Masks, and Hand Sanitizer to Farmers and Agriculture Workers. Please visit go.ncsu.edu/farmworker to request items that your farm requires based on the number of workers, or call the N.C Cooperative Extension of Edgecombe County office at 252-641-7821.
The designated pick up date is Friday, September 4, from 3–5 p.m. We will be located at the Tarboro Armory 400 E. Walnut Street Tarboro, NC 27886. For our safety and the safety of others, we will have the supplies ready for distribution beforehand and will follow safety protocols for a contactless delivery.
