Today’s the day…NC Crunch Day that is! In celebration of National Farm to School Month and North Carolina, agriculture folks across our state will be crunching on a local apple on October 21, 2020. The NC Crunch promotes local food purchasing, healthy eating, and is a fun way to connect agriculture to the classroom.
We have partnered with Wilkes Community Partnership for Children to support childcare centers participating in the “crunch.” A big thanks to Tevepaugh Orchards for providing apples. In an effort to reach children across the state who may not be able to visit a local orchard this year we worked with our neighbors at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Alexander County Center to create a virtual field trip to an apple orchard. This virtual trip is designed for preschool-age children but can be used for any age interested in learning more about the process of getting an apple from the farm to your plate!

You can join us too, simply “crunch” on a local apple any time during the month of October and share a picture on social media tagged with #NCCrunch and #F2SMonth. We hope to see everyone enjoying local food this month, whether it’s an apple or another form of produce. Try out these healthy apple recipes with apples from a local orchard!
