Do you enjoy cooking, eating, local food work, or just simply – food? If you answered yes to any of these, join the Extension Master Food Volunteer program now!! The 2022 EMFV program is coming to Duplin and Sampson County citizens! The NC State Extension Master Food Volunteer (EMFV) program provides NC residents the opportunity to engage with their communities by supporting N.C. Cooperative Extension programming in the areas of nutrition, cooking, food safety, and food systems. N.C. Cooperative Extension provides evidence-based information through community classes and events.

The EMFV program, similar to the highly recognized Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteer (EMGV) program, is designed to provide volunteers the opportunity to support Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) agents with food-related programming.

Are you curious what to expect out of the EMFV program? Interested citizens will:

  • Complete the EMFV application and interview
  • Complete mandatory 30 hours of training in our core curriculum
  • Communicate volunteer interests that suit your skills to your agent
  • Contribute 30 hours of shadowing your agent during your first year
  • Contribute 20 hours of service to your community per year, and 10 hours of continuing education (you’ll have access to evidence-based continuing education all year long)

Volunteers will be able to provide support to the FCS agent’s food-related programming, including assisting with cooking, nutrition education, health fairs, in-school and after-school programs, health ministries in your community, and more.

Sound like something you’d be interested in? Join us on November 9 for our virtual interest meeting from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom! You must attend or view the recording of the interest meeting in order to apply. Visit go.ncsu.edu/EMFV-Sampson to learn more or contact Sydney Knowles at sydney_knowles@ncsu.edu or 910-592-7161. We can’t wait to have you as part of the N.C. Cooperative Extension team!!
