Roses Are Red, Violets Are Blue… Farmers Grow Flowers Too!
Whether it’s fresh roses for Mother’s Day or hanging baskets for the front porch, picking the right flowers for a stunning summer wedding arrangement or shrubs and trees for the backyard, there’s a good chance one of North Carolina’s 1,300-plus growers is to thank.

Spotted Lanternfly Found in North Carolina
Over the past few years, we have been saying it’s a matter of “when”– not “if”– the spotted lanternfly would invade North Carolina.

Japanese Beetle Flights on the Rise

We observed significant increases of Japanese beetle adults at half of our tracking sites (Bertie, Edgecombe, Wake, Lee, Montgomery, and Henderson counties) this week. This heightened flight activity will likely continue for the next 2-3 weeks. If you are applying a product for preventive grub control, now would be the time to apply if you live in these areas.

Fall Armyworm Moths Active

Starting to see fall armyworm moths along the east coast and in little pockets throughout the state. This is earlier than usual but we have not yet heard reports of larvae feeding in these areas. However, expect to be scouting for them in the next 1-3 weeks, depending on location. Keep an eye on the fall armyworm tracking map to keep up-to-date on presence/abundance of moths in your area.
