Labor Day is recognized as the unofficial end to summer. Most kids are back in school and families with kids will settle into a routine revolving around school and related activities. I can still remember the excitement as a student of returning to school in the fall.

Labor Day is recognized as a national holiday in the United States and is celebrated on the first Monday in September. The Department of Labor states that the holiday is a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

Labor Day 2022, What is Labor Day, Labor Day Weekend 2022, When is Labor Day Weekend, Labor Day USAThe Labor Day holiday came about at a time when the average American worker worked 7 days a week with 12 hour shifts, many with horrible working conditions. There is some indecision over who first had the idea for the holiday. Peter J. McGuire and Matthew Maguire were both leaders of different labor groups. Peter is said to have first proposed the idea and Matthew is said to have championed the holiday. Oregon was the first state to pass a law and recognize Labor Day as a Holiday in 1887. By 1894, 23 states had adopted the holiday. Labor Day was made a national holiday on June 28, 1894, when President Grover Cleveland signed a bill designating the national holiday to be celebrated on the first Monday in September.
