After a two-year break, The 66th annual Farm City Banquet will be held Thursday, Nov. 3rd at 6:00 p.m. at Boone United Methodist Church. Tickets for the local food dinner and entertainment are $10, children 6-12, $5, and children 5 and under eat for free. Tickets must be purchased in advance, they will not be sold at the door. Get yours today at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Watauga County Center at 971 W. King St. Please bring cash or check, we cannot take credit cards. Only 200 will be sold.
This year, the program includes special guest and journalist Evan Smith, author of ‘Here by the Owl’, the untold true story of, Watauga County native, Robert Gray Shipley. There will be music from Patrick and Kay Crouch, a local duo. Dinner will be supplied from local farms and prepared by JP Mason and others from Coyote Kitchen. Awards will then be presented to those in the county’s farming, civic and business communities who have made significant contributions to the local agricultural economy.
Commodity groups also will award their respective producers of the year, and the Watauga Soil and Water District will present the Farm Family of the Year award. The Boone Chamber of Commerce also will present the “Tuckwiller Award” to recognize achievements in Community Development in memory of the late Lake Ernest Tuckwiller, past Watauga County Farm Agent. Door prizes of baskets full of locally produced foods and goods will be drawn from ticket stubs.
The Watauga County Farm Bureau is the Platinum Sponsor this year. Gold sponsors are New River Building Supply, Southern Ag, Hollar & Greene Produce, and Carolina Farm Credit.
