Collapse ▲N.C. Cooperative Extension, Henderson County Center has some new faces to start 2023. One of those is Casey McNeel. Casey joined our staff on January 3, 2023 as our 4-H Program Assistant. She will be assisting the 4-H program and will be in charge of special programs such as sewing/quilting, Ag Day Camp, the FRESH program at the Carl Sandburg Home as well as many other activities.
Casey comes to us from Warrensburg, MO after relocating to western North Carolina late last year. Casey earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Missouri State University in Geography, Geotourism and Entrepreneurial Studies. She also has a Professional Certificate in Sustainable Farming from the University of Vermont.
Most recently, Casey worked for Powell Gardens in Kingsville, MO. Powell Gardens is the Botanical Garden of Kansas City. The Garden covers over 900 acres and features over 6,000 varieties of plants. Casey was a senior gardener at the gardens for almost three years where she helped create the seasonal displays, managed volunteer projects and helped with garden maintenance.
She has experience as a produce manager with Natural Provisions in Williston, VT. Casey also has a connection to the apple industry having worked for Chaplain Orchards in Vermont. She worked in the farm market, the cidery and the bakery as well as the orchard where she helped graft trees.
We’re happy to have someone with such a diverse background join our team. Her experience in the horticulture arena as well as the apple industry will serve her well in her new position. Be watching for the new programs 4-H will soon be offering as Casey gets them up and running.
One of the new programs that Casey will be involved with is the Junior Master Gardener Program. This is a new program for Henderson County and Casey will be a great leader in that program with her experience with Powell Gardens.
Come by and welcome Casey to Henderson County and see what 4-H has to offer your family. Maybe we can get her hooked on Henderson County apples. We grow a few more here than they do in Vermont.
