Hummingbirds are beautiful and fascinating birds to watch and enjoy, and there is a lot we can do to make sure they come back every spring. We can encourage these delightful little birds to our gardens by growing beneficial plants that will provide a nectar source and shelter. Master Gardener℠ Volunteer Steve Matadobra will discuss how plants and effective garden management can attract hummingbirds to our garden spaces. The talk is sponsored by the Master Gardener℠ volunteers of Transylvania County and is part of the monthly series of talks and demonstrations that will interest Master Gardeners℠, amateur gardeners, and the public at large.
Steve will give some insights behind this incredible bird, its migration patterns, the types of hummingbirds that frequent Transylvania County, and how you can attract them to your gardens with plants that hummingbirds enjoy.
Steve Matadobra is a certified Master Gardener℠ Volunteer in Transylvania County and was part of the 2022 graduating class. He is Vice President of the Transylvania County Bird Club and an avid nature and wildlife photographer. He is also a council member of the Transylvania Natural Resource Council and adopter coordinator for the Waterfall Keepers of North Carolina. Steve retired from active duty with the US Coast Guard in 2020 and now resides in Pisgah Forest with his wife Whitney, a mountain bike skills instructor and coach.
The talk is sponsored by the Extension Master Gardener volunteers of Transylvania County and will be on Tuesday, February 14th, from 10 to 11.00 a.m. and will be held in the Transylvania Public Library Rogow Room in Brevard.
