2023 Extension Gardener: Learn to Grow Series

In-person only. Class sizes will be limited. To reserve a spot, send a check for $10 (nonrefundable), payable to “Haywood CES”. Mail to “Extension-Learn to Grow Class, 589 Raccoon Road, Suite 118, Waynesville, NC 28786“, or drop it off in person. Please indicate which class you wish to attend, and include your email address so we can send you some pre-class handouts.

2/21 & 2/27 (both 10a-12n): Vegetable Gardening from Planning to Harvest. Description: If you are new to vegetable gardening or want to refresh your gardening skills, learn all about vegetable gardening with N.C. Cooperative Extension,Haywood County Center. Topics will include: planning your garden beds; starting vegetables from seeds; following a garden calendar; improving your soil; and composting. The class will involve both lecture and hands-on demonstrations.

4/19 (1-3 p.m.): Lifelong Gardening. Description: A love for gardening does not have to end when mobility and other issues arise. This program is open to gardeners of all ages and abilities who want to learn more about smart gardening techniques, so they can continue to pursue their passion for gardening for years to come! During this 2-hour program you will actively participate in “learning by doing”. Topics include how to adapt existing tools for more efficient use around the garden; proper body mechanics to use while working in the garden; and garden design.

6/7 (10a-12n): Carolina Bred – New Ornamental Plants. Description: Exciting new ornamental plants bred by NC State University specialists are hitting the market. We will describe the characteristics of dozens of new varieties of plants, including shrubs like Barberries, Hydrangeas, Rhododendrons, and Spireas; trees like Redbuds, Flowering Pear, and Flowering Cherry; plus much more! Most were hybridized in North Carolina, and the majority in nearby Mills River, NC.
