Cherokee County currently has four active 4-H Clubs. All of our clubs are open to youth ages 5-18 except for our Cherokee On The Fly 4-H Club. It is open to grades 6-12. All of our 4-H clubs are free to enroll in. If there is no club that your child is interested in please give us a call and we will talk to you about other ways to be involved in 4-H. Or if you would like to start a 4-H club we would love to have new 4-H adult volunteers.

The Cherokee County 4-H Horse Club has a primary goal of teaching youth everything horse related. Youth interested in joining should be 5 as of January 1 of the enrolling year and no older than 18 as of January 1 of the enrolling year. Youth that want to enroll in the club do not have to own or even ride a horse but they should have an interest in horses. The club meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month, at 6:30 p.m. at the Extension Meeting Room, next to the Cherokee County Parks and Rec office behind the Old Rock Gym, at 699 Conaheeta Street, Murphy.

 width="307" height="232"The Cherokee On The Fly 4-H Club members learn to tie flies, learn how to cast a fly rod so no previous experience is necessary. The club is free to join. Members will also be learning about the environment and different insects and creatures that they are tying fly’s to mimic. Youth do not need to know anything about fly fishing to join the club. The club meets the 1st & 3rd Thursdays at 3:30p.m. until 5:30p.m. at the Extension Meeting Room, next to the Cherokee County Parks and Rec office behind the Old Rock Gym, at 699 Conaheeta Street, Murphy. All youth grades 6-12, no matter what school or if they are home-schooled are welcome to join.

width="217" height="377" The Bunnies, Bovines, Bees, & Birds 4-H Club focuses on teaching youth about livestock animals, honey bees, and other animals other than horses(we have a horse club if you would like to join it as well). Youth do not have to own animals to attend meetings. The club is open to all youth ages 5-18. Meetings are the 1st Tuesday of each month, at 6:30 p.m. The club meets at the Extension Meeting Room, next to the Cherokee County Parks and Rec office behind the Old Rock Gym, at 699 Conaheeta Street, Murphy. Youth will learn about caring for their animals or bees, how to show animals if they choose to show their animals, how to keep honey bees, and much, much more.

width="357" height="342"Our 4-H Community/After School Club is the Hiwassee Dam Soaring Eagles 4-H Club.  Youth ages 5-18 participate in different 4-H centered learn by doing experiences each month. We meet in Mr. Ochoa’s room at Hiwassee Dam Elementary/Middle School. Youth that attend 21st Century Learning Center Afterschool Program attend these club meetings with their afterschool director as well as enrolled members of 4-H. Dates for monthly meetings change depending on activities the club is participating in so contact Cherokee County 4-H Agent, Shannon Coleman for information on club meeting dates. Come check out one of our meetings and get enroll in one of our great 4-H clubs here in Cherokee County. Youth do not have to have animals or know how to tie fly’s in order to join our clubs but they should be interested in learning about the focus areas of the clubs.
How to Enroll in 4-H:

North Carolina 4-H utilizes an enrollment system for all new and existing 4-H members and volunteers. The online enrollment system is called 4-HOnline. If you created a new family profile in the 4-HOnline system during the 2022 program year – or – if you re-enrolling from a previous year – it is now time to update that record for the new 2023 – 2024 programmatic year.
