Join us for this hands on, multi-session program as we go “from seed to sauce”, growing a selection of different tomato varieties. All sessions EXCEPT the final canning class, will take place at the Sandhills AGInnovation Center, 1298 Crawford Road, Ellerbe, beginning at 6:30 p.m. and ending between 7:30-8:00 p.m.
Session 1. Thursday, March 30: we’ll plant seeds and discuss how to successfully grow transplants. Don Bryant, retired Richmond High School Horticulture teacher, will give us his insights and tips.
Session 2: Thursday, May 18: we will plant out the transplants at the Demo Farm on site, discuss transplant care, fertilizing, pruning, staking. Participants will be able to take home extra plants.
Session 3: Thursday, June 15: mid-season check on tomatoes, cover how to manage pests and disease, fertilizer, etc.
Session 4: Thursday, August 3: Harvest! We’ll taste test the different varieties, participants will be able to take home some of the harvest.
Session 5: date TBD. FCS agent Cheri Bennett will lead a class on preserving the harvest, canning tomatoes.
Program cost: $15 for all 5 sessions (non-refundable). Space is limited. If you miss a session, you may still receive the handout of the information covered. Register online with Eventbrite
