Come explore your interests and learn something new this summer with 4-H! Summer Exploring is a series of fun, educational short-term programs designed to help youth explore new ideas and their areas of interest. They also socialize, and programs help young minds stay active during summer months. See more information for each 2024 program below. Registration goes live on Eventbrite on May 1st at 8 a.m.

2024 OFFERINGS

Hike Hibriten Mountain | June 7th, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

We will explore local nature and get to see where we live from a bird’s eye view.Hike Hibriten MtnBring a packed lunch and we will picnic at the top of the mountain. We will meet at the extension office, 120 Hospital Ave Suite 1, Lenoir NC, 28645 at 9 a.m. (This is a moderate hike, for ages 10-18, this is an up-hill hike that takes effort, please only     sign up if physically and emotionally able to complete a moderate hike)

Horsemanship Camp | June 10-12, 9 a.m. -12 p.m.

Camp will be June 10-12 from 9 a.m. to noon each day, and youth ages 5-14 areHorsemanship campeligible to register. The address is 4912 Carpenter Rd, Granite Falls, NC (near Baton Elementary), and the cost is $45.

Bug Out | June 18th, 9 a.m.- 3 p.m.

BUG OUTCamp will be June 18th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and youth ages 5-10 are eligible to register. We will learn all about Dung Beetles and Bees! Please bring a packed lunch. We will meet at Caldwell County Meeting Rooms, which are below the library in Lenoir. The cost is $5 for instruction and supplies.

Robots and Rockets | June 20th, 9 a.m. -3 p.m.

Robots and ROcketsCamp will be June 20th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and youth ages 10-18 are eligible to register. We will build robots and rockets! Please bring a packed lunch. We will meet at Caldwell County Meeting Rooms, which are below the library in Lenoir. The cost is $ 15 for instruction and supplies.

Art Camp with Debbie | July 8-9, 9:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.

Art CampFor ages 9-13, sessions will be July 8-9 from 9:30-12:30. We will meet at Caldwell County Meeting Rooms, which are below the library in Lenoir. The cost is $10 for instruction and supplies.

Visit Grandfather Mountain | July 11th, 9:00 a.m. -4:00 p.m.

Grandfather MtnFor ages 10-18, we will meet at the Extension Office parking lot to depart at 9:00 a.m., we hope to be back at 4:00 p.m. We will spend the day at Grandfather Mountain where we will learn about the local animals and their ecosystems. The cost for youth is $12 and the cost for adults is $22. Please bring a packed lunch. We have a 12-passenger van, so if you have youth younger than 10 and would like to bring them you can, but you will have to provide transportation due to car seats.

Dog Days of Summer | July 18-20, 9:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m.

dogsFor ages 8-18, we will meet at the Extension Office located at the Lenoir Library. We will learn from a dog trainer, a vet, and a groomer. We will also make dog treats and bandanas to donate to our local animal shelter, which we will then tour! The cost is $6 for supplies. Please bring a packed lunch.

How to register and enroll

Complete registration through this Eventbrite page to reserve your spots. Then, youth must enroll in 4-H, which is free to do, prior to the start of the selected program(s). To enroll, visit v2.4honline.com.

If you have issues registering on Eventbrite or enrolling in 4-H Online, please contact the Caldwell County Extension Center at 828-757-1290.

We will be happy to work with you to accommodate your child’s needs. Please submit accommodation requests related to a disability to the Extension Center at least three weeks prior to an event.

About 4-H

4-H is a youth development organization open to youth ages 5-18.

To get started, fill out an enrollment form on 4-H Online. Then join a 4-H club, pick a project or sign up for a short-term program like ones offered during Summer Exploring!

Accommodations

We will be happy to work with you to accommodate your child’s needs. Accommodation requests related to a disability should be made at least three weeks prior to an event to Caldwell County Extension Center at 828-757-1290.

For all programs, parents and all participating youth are required to sign a Code of Conduct form, which outlines behavioral standards. This aids 4-H in fostering an environment for positive youth development.
