The N.C. Cooperative Extension Office- Lee County Center Staff has been BUSY!!! We’ll be coming at you each week to let you know what we’re up to.

Check it out in our weekly update slideshow on Facebook.

  • Pam, Jared and Bill were busy vaccinating baby chicks under the guidance of Richard Goforth, NC State Extension Area Poultry Specialist. Third-grade classrooms in Lee County hatched 140 chickens as part of the 4-H embryology project during the months of April- May. The birds are now getting ready to go to their new homes across Lee County and we hope to see some of them again as egg and poultry entries at the Lee Regional Fair!
  • Ashley Szilvay and Meredith Farve were at a two-day training for the Extension Master Food Volunteer Program, learning about how to build a program here in Lee County.
  • Amanda and Jared attended the May NCACAA Regional Meeting at Lake Waccamaw State Park in Columbus County. We discussed regional trainings, business and professional development, AND got to learn about Lake Waccamaw from the expert!
  • Rhonda Gaster kept us straight this week with all of our running around! We are so grateful for her hard work.
  • Amanda Wilkins was all over the place this week: site visits for homeowners and a day care, while also walking fields with growers and Extension specialists! Thursday was especially fun and touching, as the Sandhills Prescribed Burn Association and the ForestHer program teamed up to do an evening burn down in Moore County. Four members of the Lee County Landowners’ Forestry Association were there representing Lee County!
