Set up Your Voicemail

The campus voicemail system, Cisco Unity Connection, allows you to manage your voicemail messages, greetings, and settings on the Web and over the phone.

Note: The word ‘Unity’ in this name does not mean the Unity campus computing environment.

You will begin by creating a Voicemail PIN. Once you have created the PIN, continue to the Complete Your Voicemail Setup section.

Create a Voicemail PIN

You will need a PIN to set up your voicemail, listen to your messages, and manage your settings. To keep your voicemail secure, be sure to keep your PIN private. Change it often, and do not share it with anyone.

PIN Requirements:

• Your PIN must contain
  
  • Six digits (numerals only)
• Your PIN must not contain
  
  • Your primary extension or its reverse
  • All consecutive digits (e.g., 12345, 98765)
  • A digit repeated consecutively more than twice (e.g., 25888)
  • Repeated groups of three or more digits (e.g., 902902)
  • A numeric representation of your first name, last name, or any combination of them
• You cannot reuse any of the last three PINs you have created.

1.  Log in to the Personal Communications Assistant with your Unity ID and password.
2. Click the Messaging Assistant link and then Passwords > Change PIN.
3. Type in your New PIN and Confirm your New PIN.
4. Click Save.

Note: If you forget your PIN, you can create a new one with these same instructions. You do not need your current PIN to change it. You may also change your PIN over the phone, but only if you know your current PIN. Please see the Change Your Voicemail PIN article.

Complete Your Voicemail Setup

You can complete the setup from your own phone on campus, another person’s phone on campus, or an off-campus phone. Please see the corresponding instruction set below.

• From your own phone on campus

1. Dial 26245.
2. When the system answers, enter the PIN you created earlier, then press the pound # key.
3. Follow the prompts to:
   
   1. Record your name
   2. Record a greeting

•  From another person’s phone on campus

1. Dial 26245.
2. When the system answers, do NOT enter your PIN. Instead, you will enter your PIN in Step 4. Next, press the star * key.
3. Enter your ID (last FIVE digits of your campus phone number or mailbox number - NOT your Unity ID).
4. Press the pound # key, then enter the PIN you created earlier.
5. Follow the prompts to:
   
   1. Record your name
   2. Record a greeting

•  From an off-campus phone

1. Dial 919 512 6245.
2. When you hear the welcome message, press the star * key.
3. Enter your ID (last FIVE digits of your campus phone number or mailbox number - NOT your Unity Id).
4. Press the pound # key, then enter the PIN you created earlier.
5. Follow the prompts to:
   
   1. Record your name
   2. Record a greeting
