Go Pick!

The Wolfpack Pickers Jam is open to bluegrass musicians of all skill levels who are affiliated with NC State.

Who can participate?

The Wolfpack Pickers Jam is open to bluegrass musicians of all skill levels who are affiliated with NC State. The standard bluegrass instruments (guitar, banjo, mandolin, bass, dobro, and fiddle) are all welcome. With the exception of bass players who play a uke-bass or electric stick bass, all instruments should be acoustic (un-amplified).

The Jam is open to the following members of the NC State University:

  • Current students
  • Current employees
  • Retired faculty and staff
  • Alumni
  • Wolfpack parents

What skill levels are included?

The Jam is open to all skill levels and is intended to be a place where we can share songs and build community by playing together. This is a “circle jam” where we sit in a circle and play, as opposed to a jam that is more oriented to performing on stage. We will play instrumentals as well as singing songs.

At a minimum, players should be able to tune their instrument, and play the 1, 4, and 5 chords in the keys of G, C, A, and D (guitars and banjos typically use capos for A and D).  The ability to improvise and play solos on your instrument is not required.

When?

  • 1st and 3rd Mondays (exceptions: any date the university is closed, such as Labor Day and Winter Break)
  • 7:00 – 9:00 pm

Where?

  • Talley Student Union – either inside at One Earth Lounge, or outside in the dining area
  • We may occasionally be at another location, but will publicize that well in advance
