Dev Tools and Resources - Room 3222

This session will consist of two Lightning Talks:

Collaborating with OIT-HPC (Google Slides - overview, but were not used in the session)

The OIT Henry2 High Performance Computing group, the College of Engineering ITECS Systems group and the Libraries have formed a unique partnership. More than being users of the Henry2 cluster, ITECS, and the Libraries have become active and collaborative partners in the success and access to campus HPC. Our collective goal is to provide access to all students, including undergraduates, and all faculty who would like to use high-performance computing.

Presenters: Chris Allen, Dustin Wheeler

GitHub: More than just version control (Google Slides)

GitHub is at the heart of a Git repository hosting service, i.e. a cloud-based source code management or version control system, but that’s just the beginning. In addition, GitHub implements features for code review (pull requests, diffs, and review requests), project management (including issue tracking and assignment), integrations with other developer tools, team management, documentation, and “social coding.”

Presenter: Dustin Wheeler

System Administrator Onboarding - Room 3285

(Google Slides)

Are you new to system administration at NC State? Join us for an overview of the system administration tools that are available for you to use for managing your environment. This will include tools available for managing Windows, Linux or Macintosh machines as well as networking and communications tools. This session will be a panel with time for Q&A at the end.

Presenters: Billy Beaudoin, Kristina Kelly, Michael Underwood

Voices from NC State's Project Management and Agile Community (PMAC) - Room 3210

(More information about the PMAC)

NC State is becoming increasingly Agile-ish. Join members of the NC State Project Management and Agile Community as they share what Agile frameworks they are practicing, successes, pain points and next steps.

Presenters: Ellen Coster, Mitch Amiano, Chris Allen, and Laurie Gyalog

3:10-4:00 p.m. - Breakout Session 2

Fostering Collaboration and Communication - This session will be rescheduled in Spring 2020 as an IT Community Exchange session. It needed to be canceled due to a family emergency.

Web Development - Room 3222

This session will consist of three Lightning Talks:

The Power of WordPress Block Templates (Google Slides)

The introduction of the Block Editor has created new opportunities for WordPress to really own the term "content management system." Come see the power of block templates and reusable blocks for creating easy-to-update content in your site(s).

Presenter: Jen McFarland

CALS International Programs - An Adventure in Coding (PowerPoint Slides)

When presented with an innovative idea for a robust (and what felt like an exhaustive data-laden) International Programs website, Kim found herself exploring code beyond what she had ever thought she could manage. It was a challenge and a wonderful collaborative effort with Jose Cisneros that ultimately resulted in a uniquely powerful tool. Our hope is that this application will aid College of Agriculture and Life Sciences faculty to collaborate their research efforts not only across the university but also across the globe.

Presenter: Kim Cox

Refactoring UI: Design Practices for Developers (Google Slides)

Learn specific, actionable user interface design improvements you can incorporate right now through Refactoring UI's YouTube series.

Presenter: Lyly Galarza-Punter

IT Tools and Resources - Room 3285

This session will consist of three Lightning Talks:

Persona: An automated attribute-based people grouping service (Google Slides)

Persona is a new service on campus for creating automated groups of people based on attributes. Define the criteria for the group, and Persona will keep the membership up-to-date for you. Persona integrates with Active Directory and has a fully featured REST API to allow most anything to get membership data. Come find out more details about Persona and how it is being used on campus.

Presenter: Matt Fields

Taming the Wild West of 3rd-Party Apps in G Suite (Google Slides)

Join us for a quick overview on how the Google Service Team at NC State is working to get a handle on the myriad of third party apps currently in our G Suite domain. We'll review our approach and the processes we'll be using to review or re-review these third party apps in Marketplace.

Presenter: Sarah Noell, Chris Deaton
