The 2021 Invitational Virtual Hippology Contest is open to all youth ages 8-18 that are non-North Carolina residents and/or NC 4-H members. The divisions and details are as follows:
- This is an individual contest only, there will be no team awards.
- The contest will open on April 1, 2021, at 9:00 AM (EST) and will close on April 3, 2021, at 9:00 PM (EST).
- Registration is through Eventbrite. The cost to enter is $12 per contestant.
- After the March 25 deadline, registered youth will be emailed instructions on how to access the contest materials.
- There will be practice modules available for youth to access so they can get comfortable using the contest platform.
- Youth can complete the different categories at different times during the contest window, but are encouraged to complete all of them in one sitting. It is estimated that it will take 2 to 2 ½ hours to complete all categories of the contest. Youth are working on the honor system that they are not receiving outside help from sources or other people.
- The divisions are as follows:
- Junior (ages 8-13, as of 1/1/21)
- Senior (ages 14-18, as of 1/1/21)
- The contest will consist of the following categories:
- Exam and Visual Identification (200 points)
- Exams will consist of multiple-choice, true/false, and matching questions.
- There will be a 30-minute time limit for completing the exam.
- Juniors will have a 25 question exam worth 100 points.
- Seniors will have a 50 question exam worth 100 points.
- Visual Identification items will be in the form of individual slides/pictures with multiple-choice questions.
- Juniors will have 25 IDs worth 100 points.
- Juniors will have 13 minutes to complete the IDs.
- Seniors will have 50 IDs worth 100 points.
- Seniors will have 25 minutes to complete the IDs.
- Stations (200 points)
- Both juniors and seniors will have 10 stations, with 10 questions each.
- The stations will consist of matching and identification questions.
- There will be a two-minute time limit to complete each station (total of 20 minutes).
- Judging (200 points)
- Both juniors and seniors will judge 4 classes, worth 50 points each.
- The classes can be any combination of halter and performance classes.
- Awards:
- The top 5 individuals in each category, in each division, will receive ribbons; high scoring individuals will receive a plaque.
- The top 10 individuals overall in each division will receive ribbons; 1st and 2nd high individuals will receive a plaque.
- Winners will be announced on Facebook Live on Monday, April 5, at 7:30 PM (EST). https://www.facebook.com/NC4HHorse1
- There will be a contestant orientation Zoom meeting on March 31 at 7:30 EST. The meeting link will be emailed to registered participants.
