Winter Cotton & Peanut Agent Training

  • 1/20/2021  (virtual for 2021)
  • Covers all agronomic disciplines that relate to cotton and peanut production which provides the most current research-based recommendations needed for the coming season.

Cotton Crash Course

  • 3/8/2021
  • 2-3 day event. Usually at the Wilson county extension office for the first 2 days followed by a tour and training at Cotton Inc in Cary on the last day (likely virtual for 2021)
  • Provides a back-to-basics training on each discipline as it relates to cotton production.  This course was designed as a refresher for seasoned agents, and new basic information for new agents, in an effort to bring all agents up to the same level of basic agronomic knowledge needed to make recommendations for cotton.

Cotton & Peanut Agent Training Field Day

  • Date tbd (June 2021). Location tbd.
  • In-field training that involves all extension cotton and peanut faculty and agents with responsibilities in these crops. Usually held at the Upper Coastal Plains Research Station in Rocky Mount, for agents to see research trials at plot-side and for trouble-shooting possible scenarios that agents will encounter at some point in their career.

  • Topics will include: Forage Planting Guide for North Carolina: Online Tool, Utilization, & Special Cases (Dr. Miguel Castillo); Weed Management for New & Established Tall Fescue Pastures (Dr. Ramon Leon); and Animal Manures as Forage Fertilizers: Potential Toxicity Issues (Dr. Steph Kulesza)

Training Webinar

  • 12/3/20, 8-11 am
  • Hosted by Drs. David Suchoff, Grant Ellington, Marne Coit, Hannah Burrack, and Lindsey Thiessen.
  • This training event will be an update on research efforts pertaining to floral hemp in areas of production, pest and disease management, post-harvest handling, and state regulations.

  • This course is designed as a refresher for seasoned agents and to present new information pertaining to current research programs. Training topics will include: tobacco production/demand forecast, production budget overviews, insect/disease management, nutrient management, and curing/mechanization advancements.
