Overview
In accordance with the rights outlined in the Student Discipline Procedures, Section 6, Students or Student Organizations/Groups charged with, or under investigation for, non-academic misconduct, may be represented by an Attorney or Non-Attorney Advocate in a Disciplinary Conference, Mutual Agreement, Administrative Hearing, or Interim Suspension Hearing.
Students who plan to be represented by and Attorney or Non-Attorney Advocate in their disciplinary proceeding must do the following:
- Notify the Office of Student Conduct in writing of this representation, including the name and contact information of the selected Attorney/Non-Attorney Advocate;
- Complete and submit a signed FERPA release consenting to the Attorney/Non-Attorney Advocate to receive information and documents regarding the Respondent;
- Submit a certification signed by the Attorney/Non-Attorney Advocate verifying that the Attorney/Non-Attorney Advocate has read and understood the Code of Student Conduct, the Student Discipline Procedures and applicable appendices, as well as Section 700.4.1 of the UNC Policy Manual (and Section 700.4.1.1[R])
This online form must be submitted separately by the Student and the Attorney/Non-Attorney Advocate at least three (3) calendar days prior to the scheduled disciplinary proceeding.
Failure to submit this completed form by the established deadline will result in the loss of the student or student organization’s right to be represented by an Attorney/Non-Attorney Advocate at that proceeding.
