Volunteers are needed to extend some Currituck hospitality and ensure a successful experience for area youth. Most volunteers will be needed from 8am until 2pm.

Currituck County 4-H is hosting the NC 4-H Northeast District Public Speaking Competition on June 17, 2022. Youth participating in this contest research a topic of interest and then put together a creative, informative 5-12 minute prepared presentation which is presented to a panel of judges, who score the youth based on the speech’s content, composition and delivery. There are 35 presentation categories with 3 age groups per category. The Northeast District consists of 22 counties and youth, families, Extension volunteers and Staff from each of these counties will be in attendance for this event as well as faculty and staff from North Carolina State University and NC Cooperative Extension.

Role Descriptions

Most volunteers will be needed from 8am until about 3pm. Descriptions of roles needed are below. Please indicate any role you would be willing to fill. Selecting multiple areas is encouraged so that we can ensure all roles are filled.

Presentation Room Host (25 needed) - These individuals serve as a friendly, welcoming face in a presentation room. They ensure that youth have a positive experience by monitoring the door and ensuring there are no interruptions during a child's presentation.

Food Prep Room Host (at least 1 needed) - These individuals provide a welcoming atmosphere in the food preparation room. They monitor for safety and cleanliness.

Outdoor Cooking Area Host (at least 2 needed) - These individuals welcome youth to the outdoor cooking area and provide a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. They monitor for safety and are available to answer questions regarding layout and facility.

4-H Entertains Host (at least 2 needed) - These individuals serve as a friendly, welcoming face in the 4-H Entertains auditorium. They ensure that the room runs on schedule and prevent interruptions during performances.

4-H Entertains Emcee (1 needed) - This individual introduces the 4-H Entertains acts and keeps the event flowing.
