Livestock

Grazing Workshop
On May 27th our livestock agent hosted a hands on workshop on grazing management strategies for livestock producers at the Harvest House in Ramseur. This program focused on pasture management and using temporary grazing to maximize forage utilization. Two hours of DKNOX pesticide credits were offered. Thank you to all that participated.

Soil Sampling
The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is collecting and testing consumer (lawn and garden) soil samples. All former restrictions have been lifted. Soil sample boxes, forms, and instructions are available just inside our front door. Call 336.318.6000 with questions.

Red White and Blue - Good for You! Did you know the color of your food can tell you about its nutrition benefits? In this session, we'll explore three famous Independence Day colors in two different recipes; popsicles for summer, and soup for the colder months. Come "eat the rainbow" with us and get your 4th of July celebration started early

Master Gardener Program seeking new students for the 2021 class!
Master Gardeners are trained to work with all ages of people and help extend the reach of educational opportunities provided by Randolph County Cooperative Extension and North Carolina State University. Our volunteers help foster an understanding of where food comes, how it is produced, and cultivates environmental stewardship within our community.

We are pleased to announce that our youth livestock shows will be in person this year, and while they still make look a little different, the valuable experience of this opportunity will continue to shine. Stay tuned to our website and Facebook pages for registration information.

Fun Educational Video Series
Through the month of June and July our 4-H Facebook page and YouTube channel will be featuring two different video series. One will focus on careers in Agriculture with interviews from those in our community who hold those positions and will post on Wednesdays.. The other will be fun videos with topics ranging from easy recipes for youth to hands on science experiments and will post on Fridays.

Director Update

Summer Intern
An Extension summer intern works with Extension personnel to deliver hands-on, educational programs. Job shadowing and mentoring help interns learn about the mission and work of North Carolina Cooperative Extension. Meet our Randolph County summer intern!

We're Hiring Two Positions

First is a 4-H Progam Assistant.  This is a full-time (with benefits), position working with Randolph County youth in communities and at schools.    

Second is a Digital Ambassador.  This is a temporary part-time position.  Through speaking engagements, social media posts, press releases, event booths, and constant contact with customers, you have the chance to build awareness of the actions Randolph County residents can do the help improve broadband problems in Randolph County.

HOPE Program
Are you a renter living in Randolph
County who needs help making rent or utility payments due to the COVID-19 pandemic? The NC HOPE Program may be able to help. To find out more, visit www.hope.nc.gov. #NCHOPE. Or are you a landlord with a tenant behind on rent due to the impacts of COVID-19? The NC HOPE Program allows landlords to get payments for back rent if the tenant qualifies for assistance. Although landlords cannot apply for the NC HOPE Program, they can refer distressed tenants to the program.
