To reduce the potential for hive loss, staff with environmental health at the Columbus County Health Department are asking for a list of beekeepers and hive locations as they begin their late summer mosquito sprays.
We have contact information for members of the Columbus County Beekeepers Association, but we know others may be out there who do not participate. If you are a beekeeper or have beehives and would like for your name and contact info to be passed along to avoid having your area sprayed for mosquitoes, please contact our office at 910-640-6605.
Additionally, we would like to encourage all beekeepers to add their hives to the NC Driftwatch map. This voluntary program enables crop producers, beekeepers, and pesticide applicators to work together to protect specialty crops and apiaries through the Driftwatch registry mapping program.
