Join us for an informative talk by Josie Walker of the Black Seed Collective to celebrate the kick-off of the Franklin County Library’s Seed Library. She will share a little about what they do, what a seed library is, and how to save seeds to share with our seed library. The seed library was started in collaboration with N.C. Cooperative Extension-Franklin County Center.

  • WHAT: Franklin County Seed Library Kickoff Celebration
  • WHEN: Thursday March 7th, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.
  • WHERE: Louisburg Public Library; 906 N. Main St., Louisburg 27549

The Franklin County Public Library is working with the Franklin County Center to start a seed library. We need your help with the following.

  1.  Donating excess seeds. If you have excess seed or seed that is a year or two old, please bring it to Franklin County Center office. We will ensure it goes to the library.
  2. Identifying local heirloom varieties and donating heirloom seed. We don’t know of any heirloom varieties that are unique to this region, but if you do we want to know about them. We would love for the the library to be a seed repository for the region’s agricultural heritage. If you know of any please let us know and if possible bring us some of the seeds.
  3. Participate when it opens. We want you to participate in this resource. Take advantage of free seeds of different types. Save your seeds and bring some back and donate it to the seed library. Find unique (non-invasive) seeds when you travel and donate them to the library for the whole community to enjoy. Tell others about this resource so that they can participate.

If you have any questions or donations contact William Landis, 919-496-3344.
