What is Food Security?

Food Security is when all people, at all times, have physical and economical access to sufficient safe, nutritious food that fuels a healthy, active lifestyle (FAO, 2008).

What is a Food System?

The food system is an interconnected network of activities and organizations that provide the production, processing, transportation, and consumption of food in a given area (Washington State University, n.d.).

What is Food Apartheid?

Food Apartheid is a characteristic of inequity in the food system and describes the racial segregation of healthy food, causing health disparities and undue hardship on a race or class of people (Lu, r.2021).

What is a Food Desert?

A food desert is an area where people have limited access to a variety of healthy and affordable food with known systematic socioeconomic influences on the affected populations (USDA, 2009).
