Teaching, Training, and Educational Technology

Delivered 100% online, the Graduate Certificate in Teaching, Training, and Educational Technology consists of five 3-credit courses focused on teaching, training and the use of technology in a variety of educational environments. Students can tailor the program to meet their needs and gain the knowledge and skills necessary to design and deliver course-related content through face-to-face, technology-enhanced and e-learning environments. The program is designed for the individual who has recently advanced in a related position and is without the academic preparation needed or for those choosing to increase their knowledge and skills in the field for future job opportunities. Students may choose one of five specialty areas. Courses taken towards the Graduate Certificate may be applied towards the M.Ed. or M.S. in Adult Education.  Transfer credit from other institutions is not permitted.

Eligibility

Requirements for admission to the certificate program include:

• Graduate of an accredited four-year college or university
• GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4-point scale in the last 60 credit hours of undergraduate study

Applicants who do not meet the GPA requirements may be admitted provisionally based on past work experiences and the attainment of at least a “B” average in the first three courses of the certificate.

Students may begin taking courses for the certificate in Summer, Fall or Spring.

Application Deadlines

Applicants may apply at any time for upcoming Spring, Summer or Fall start dates. Please allow 6 to 8 weeks planning time prior to the desired start date. Applications are reviewed once per month.

Plan of Study

The certificate requires 15 credit hours. Required courses are offered during fall and spring semesters and during summer sessions. It is highly recommended that students take one course per academic session; thus the recommended time for completion is five semesters and/or summer sessions.

Award of the certificate requires a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.

Career Prospects

The Graduate Certificate in Teaching, Training, and Educational Technology allows students to tailor learning to fit their own real-world situations. With an increasing number of academic and training courses delivered in online formats, this certificate is ideal for both emerging trainers, instructors and developers of curriculum as well as for instructors now facing new challenges such as how to effectively teach material that used to only be available in person but now is presented online.

Credits earned in the certificate may be applied to NC State University's nationally ranked master's programs (upon admission).
