Awards Dinner FlyerThe Alleghany Agricultural Advisory Board (AAAB) will host its annual Agricultural Awards Dinner to recognize local farmers and their accomplishments on Tuesday, Feb. 7th 2023 at Winter Wood Farm in Sparta, NC.

The AAAB was appointed by the County on June 16, 2014 to promote agriculture and forestry and to carry out priorities identified in the 2013 Alleghany County Farmland Preservation Plan.

These priorities include promoting “buy local” programs, preservation of farmland, and developing programs to promote and encourage young farmers. The Advisory Board is comprised of representatives of farmers, agricultural related boards, agribusinesses, lenders, and county government and agencies who work with agriculture.

We will be recognizing the individuals who have been selected to be inducted to the Alleghany Agriculture Hall of Fame. This is for Alleghany residents who have rendered distinguished service in the science and art of agriculture. The performance of this individual must be outstanding and as a result of his or her efforts, the cause of agriculture materially benefited.

The field activity may have been primarily scientific, practical farming or a personality who led a great movement of agricultural progress. This year’s inductees are Bill Osborne, Nash Williams DVM, Alton Darnell, and Tom Greene (Deceased).

This is will be the seventh Alleghany Agricultural Awards Banquet. The annual event was one of the goals of the county’s Strategic Economic Development Plan through the Alleghany Agricultural Advisory Board to spotlight local agricultural heritage and achievement.

Tickets are free but required and limited. These are available on a first come first serve basis from the Alleghany Extension at 336-372-55997 or the Alleghany Soil and Water Office at 336-372-7777.
