Raleigh, N.C.- NC State Extension announced that Lauren Turner is completing an Extension internship this summer with the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Orange County Center.

An Extension summer intern works with Extension personnel to deliver hands-on, educational programs. Job shadowing and mentoring help interns learn about the mission and work of North Carolina Cooperative Extension.

Lauren Turner“Extension makes a positive difference in the community every day. We provide educational programs that connect communities with research-based information. Our internship program is another way we help prepare students for challenging and rewarding careers in food, agriculture, natural resources, and family and consumer sciences” said Dr. Richard Bonanno, Associate Dean of the NC State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and Director of NC State Extension.

“I have the desire to connect plants and people through mental health awareness, and to steward an environmentally friendly community”, says Turner. “I am excited to be in Orange County this summer and to learn from the staff as they serve Orange County residents.”

“We look forward to the opportunity to expose Lauren this summer to the work of Cooperative Extension in Orange County”, says Jonathon Smith, Interim County Extension Director. “Our staff is heavily engaged in the programmatic areas of agriculture, food and nutrition, and 4-H youth development, and we will aim to engage Lauren in that work. Lauren’s background in horticulture science and her passion for people will be a great asset to our team this summer!”

Turner is a senior from NC State University majoring in Horticulture Science: Production Systems and Entrepreneurship, and is a native of Granite Falls, NC.
