Ivelisse Colón receiving award from NC State Extension Director Dr. Rich Bonanno and NC A&T State Extension Administrator Dr. Ray McKinnie.

Orange County Family & Consumer Sciences Agent Ivelisse Colón was recognized as the recipient of the 2023 Dr. Sandra Zaslow Professional Development Award and the Ada B. Dalla-Pozza Professional Development Award at NC A&T State University on October 26. The awards were presented as part of the North Central Cooperative Extension District Professional Development Meeting.

The Dr. Sandra Zaslow Professional Development Award recognizes excellence among Family and Consumer Science Agents. The award provides funding for an outstanding agent to attend the Family and Consumer Sciences Association national meeting.

The purpose of the Dalla-Pozza Award is to enhance the professional development of an outstanding Extension Family and Consumer Sciences career professional in North Carolina, who exhibits the ability to recognize concerns and needs of families and to involve people in planning and implementing educational programs that benefit clientele. The award provides opportunities for professional improvement that will enhance the development of the recipient.

“We are honored to have Ivelisse on our team here in Orange County. She is a true public servant and a driver of change in Orange County communities. She is passionate about helping people live safe, healthy, and productive lives. And she gives them tools to do just that”, says Jonathon Smith, N.C. Cooperative Extension, Orange County Center Director. “She is committed to excellence and making the greatest impact possible through her work. She desires to grow and improve every day. Her example challenges our team as a whole to do the same!”

Ivelisse intends to use the funds from these awards to support her attendance at national professional development conferences in 2024.

Congratulations, Ivelisse! Thank you for all you do to support the people of Orange County and across the State of North Carolina!
